William Faulkner Society

About

The William Faulkner Society (WFS) is an independent entity that aims to foster and support the study and discussion of the life and works of William Faulkner. Each year the WFS organizes scholarly panels at the Modern Language Association Convention and the American Literature Association Conference. The WFS also hosts Faulkner-related panels and conferences taking place internationally. The Yoknapatawpha Scholarship supports travel to the annual Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conference in Oxford, Mississippi, William Faulkner’s home.

Our mission

The William Faulkner Society (WFS) is committed to supporting students, scholars, and the public in their endeavors to read, study, confront, and critique the work of William Faulkner. WFS is committed to promoting work that advances fresh and novel perspectives on and approaches to Faulkner’s work, particularly by people from diverse communities, including emerging, international, and marginalized scholars. WFS is committed to expanding the scope of Faulkner scholarship through representation at major national and international conferences, such as American Literary Association (ALA), Modern Language Association (MLA), The Society for the Study of Southern Literature (SSSL), and Faulkner & Yoknapatawpha. To this end, each year WFS offers a number of scholarships to support participation. WFS is committed to maintaining strong collaborative relationships with The Faulkner Journal, Faulkner & Yoknaptawpha, Faulkner in the UK, Nordic Faulkner Studies Network, Faulkner in France, and other international networks.

WFS values and encourages participation from innovative, open-minded, critical, interdisciplinary, creative, curious, experimental, inquisitive, respectful, and empathetic scholars. We look forward to supporting our membership by providing opportunities to learn and grow together.
